about

Hello! My name is Kelly (she/her) and I’m an artist and photographer living & working on the traditional territory of the Lekwungen people (Victoria, BC). I graduated with a B.A.H in Studio Art from the University of Guelph, ON in April 2016. I have exhibited in Toronto, Montreal, Dawson City and Victoria and have participated in artist residencies in Portugal, Nova Scotia, and the Yukon.

my work

My photography work centers around analog processes; this means that I do not shoot on (or even own) a digital camera. This gives the photos their gritty look which in film photography, we call ‘grain’. I find that film photography has a special way of capturing light and colour that is simply unmatched in the digital world. I develop and scan my film myself, allowing me to work intimately with the process from start to finish with my own hands. As a result, there is often evidence of the process seen in the final images as ‘imperfections’ - to me they are the charm of analog photography.

In order to retain as much of the natural effect film photography creates, I do minimal post-shoot editing. I will never alter a model or client’s body unless requested for special circumstances.

working with me

I offer services shooting couples, boudoir, maternity & family, portraits, and weddings. Please see the portfolio pages for examples of my previous work. I am happy and willing to travel for shoots.

I strive to create work that is vulnerable, honest, atmospheric and dreamy. I am fascinated by capturing relationships, intimacy, and bonds between partners, lovers, and families. I love working with people and to me they are the most interesting subject to photograph, especially if we can shoot outside, play with natural light, and get experimental.

All of my shoots are focused around consent and comfort. The most important thing in the shooting experience is that those posing for the photos are as comfortable and safe as possible, and I’ll never ask you to pose or dress in a way that you don’t want to! I’ll offer regular check-ins, ask for permission, and always respect your boundaries. Many of my photos include nude models - but this is in no way necessary and is optional only if it is something you’d like to try. You don’t need any experience in front of the camera - I’ll direct every last detail if you’d like me to (and if you’d prefer to direct yourself, go for it!).
